The first month of 2014 picked up where 2013 left off. Lots of staying indoors, settling in with the family, relaxing and playing games.
I don't need to tell you that January was a cold, snowy month. The kids had an unprecedented amount of snow days. Taylor says it's only fair since the last two years yielded only one snow day.
It made me grateful that they are such homebodies. Everyone has been content staying in and dialing down our activity level.
This is not to say that nothing got accomplished in January.
My studio went from this:

Other areas of our house experienced make overs too. The night before our house was to be painted, our electricity went out for 2 hours. So we enjoyed dinner by candlelight.
Luckily it came back on. Then I put up with my house looking like this for three days.
It was so worth it, though!
I am forever grateful to my friend, Karen, who helped me with this project. She even brought her husband and boys over to help hang the last items.
Morgan thoroughly inspected the new furniture.
We did accomplish a few other activities. Taylor cheered a few games.
The kids resumed piano lessons.
A new game was invented.
The kids went to school a handful of times (or so it seemed).
I had the privilege of photographing classes at the school for their capital campaign.
Morgan graduated to a big girl bed.
She worked on her winking.
Taylor taught Morgan to play Candyland.
The big girls went to the Air Force Museum.
Mommy worked on her backlighting.
I also took advantage of a snow day to break in the new studio.
Taylor and Charlie learned to blow bubbles with their gum.
I volunteered at the school for Everybody Counts in which the children learn what it is like to have a disability.
Taylor tried her hand at roller skating for the first time and rocked it!
Grandpa snuck in a few hugs.
Taylor and I attended the annual Mother Daughter event at school.
What these photos do not depict has been the funk I've experienced this past month. It's been a struggle to pick up my camera and I've knowingly let days slide on my 365 project. I've felt very stagnant in my photography journey. The only positive aspect of this has been that I have remained confident that this is simply a phase and will pass. I've signed up for two workshops in February which will hopefully push me creatively and motivate me towards creating images that resonate with me and my viewer. So stand by, good things are coming.
